The IPCC’s Climate Report

Yesterday the new and sixth climate report of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) was presented. IPCC is the United Nations’ climate working group. A new report is published every six to seven years.

De Volkskrant made an overview of the ten most important points in the report of 9 August 2021:

1.
It is undeniable that the atmosphere, the ocean and the land have warmed under the influence of man.

2.
The sea level rose 20 centimeters between 1901 and 2018, and the rise is accelerating: between 2006 and 2018 three times as fast as between 1901 and 1971.

3.
Climate change affects countless weather and climate extremes around the world: heat waves, heavy rainfall, drought, tropical cyclones. It is clearer than before that this is man-made.

4.
The global temperature will continue to rise until the middle of this century, regardless of the scenario that follows greenhouse gas emissions.

5.
Warming will exceed 2 degrees Celsius in the 21st century, unless emissions of CO2 and other greenhouse gases fall significantly in the coming decades.

6.
If we want global warming to be limited to a certain value, it is at the very least necessary to emit net zero CO2.

7.
If greenhouse gas emissions do not fall quickly, the sea level will rise 44 to 76 centimeters in 2100. In the highest scenario, the sea level will rise 63 to 101 centimeters.

8.
Many changes are irreversible over centuries or even millennia, especially changes in the ocean, ice sheets and sea level.

9.
Warming will lead to heavier rains and more intense droughts.

10.
All over the world, the impact of climate change will become more and more felt.

The climate report emphasizes once again how important it is to act now. Our product can make a substantial contribution to this battle in a feasible and affordable way. When installed, the CO2 emissions for heating your home immediately decrease by 30 to 50%, which is comparable to the climate targets for the built environment in 2030! When your home is connected to sustainably generated hydrogen or biogas, no CO2 is emitted at all.

In the coming winter, the penultimate models of our heat pump will be tested in a number of homes. The first versions will be launched on a small scale in the winter of 2022-2023. After 2023, production will be scaled up to larger numbers. Do you have questions or do you want to know more? View our FAQ or contact us via the contact form.
